Nintendo Still Dominates Japan Sales

Coming in as no big surprise, Nintendo continues to dominate sales in Japan with the newly released Mario Kart Wii topping this week's charts (April 7-13).

If the sold-out Wii Handles (at least in Akihabara) weren't enough of a clue, Mario's latest racing adventures topped the charts with an astounding 594,000 copies sold. Wii Fit comes in at 4th, with only 31,000 copies sold, but that could also be a result of the fact that it tends to be sold out pretty much everywhere.

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G for the PlayStation Portable continues to hold its own at #2 with another 222,000 copies sold, and overall sales at 1,590,000. The fact that Capcom continues to support the game with new downloadable content (some new add-ons will be available as of tomorrow) should certainly help give the game a long life and no lack of attention.

With no other new entries in the top 10, and six positions taken up by Nintendo (including Pokemon Ranger: Batonnage, Tottado! Yowikio no Mujintou Seikatsu, Deca Sporta, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl), it's not hard to understand why retailer Sofmap loves to put all their Wii and DS goods on the first floor, even spilling out on the street.
