Amazon Joins HD DVD Pity Party With $50 Credit

Amazon is joining the ranks of Best Buy and Wal-Mart by kicking something back to early HD DVD adopters. An email from the online retailer reveals that early adopters who purchased the doomed players are now eligible for a $50 credit.

It comes with a few caveats though -- the offer is only good on units purchased from Amazon (duh), and is only applicable to players purchased prior to February 23rd. But on the bright side, Amazon will be honoring the credit (via promo code) until April 9th, 2009.

What do you guys think? Are retailers doing right by cutting shoppers a deal on the obsolete players? Or is this just another corporate-subsidized ride in the Waaaahmbulance? Sound off in the comments!
